COIR FIBER
Coir fiber is extracted from the outer husk of coconut shells through a process involving soaking the husks in water to soften the fibers. The long bristle fibers are separated from the shorter mattress fibers beneath the husk skin in a process known as fiber milling. Once separated, the mattress fibers are cleaned, sun-dried, and packed into bales. Some manufacturers combine both bristle and mattress fibers to create mixed fiber bales, typically weighing between 100–150 kg.
Brown coir fiber is widely utilized in the production of floor mats, brushes, mattresses, sacking, and floor tiles. It is also used in erosion control products, such as coir nets, which are effective on riverbanks and hillsides. Coir fiber can be processed into rubberized coir by spraying it with natural rubber latex, binding the fibers into a durable material. Rubberized coir is extensively used in the automotive industry for upholstery padding and in horticulture for biodegradable pots and vases. Its versatility and eco-friendly nature make coir fiber a sustainable choice for various industrial applications.
